The Purple Wine Company would like to extend its appreciation to the following people with whom we have consulted in assembling our portfolio of wines. They have each provided us with their combined knowledge and advice gained from over a combined 100 years experience in the wine trade. We are truly grateful to them for their ongoing contribution and assistance.

Ian Clarke AIWS – Managing Director began his wine career working under David Scatchard, one of the first importers of Spanish wines to the UK for the commercial market. During this time he built up a great knowledge and understanding of wines from across the world, specialising in Spanish wines.

Having worked for both major national and specialist independent wine companies, Ian formed the Purple Wine Company in September 2006 with the aim of establishing a Liverpool based wine merchant in what was once the capital of the wine trade in the North West. Ian is also an Associate member of Institute of Wines & Spirits.

Ray Flynn began his career at Scatchard wines in Liverpool in 1980, during his eighteen years with the company he developed a great fondness and passion for Spanish wines and has a close relationship with our main Rioja bodegas.

In 1999, after David Scatchard’s retirement from the trade, he left Liverpool and moved to Manchester and is now the Managing Director of a successful independent wine importing business. With almost 30 years experience of wines he has been instrumental in supporting our company.

Nick Reed has been in the wine trade in excess of 25 years, and throughout his career has worked for a number of major wine companies. However in June 2000, Nick set up his own wine company based in Cheshire. During the course of his career Nick has travelled extensively across France and has developed a specific knowledge of their wines and culture which has proven to be most invaluable.

John Critchley Is our youngest consultant, having only entered the wine trade some 10 years ago and like so many other budding wine enthusiasts, began his career at Oddbins, before moving to a specialist Italian wine importer. Having developed a passion for Italian wines, in 2006 John set up his own wine business in Leeds and has since gone on to further his career in the wine trade.
